CIVIC DISTRICT 1

Civic District 1

Did you know?

The Civic District Trail, which is centred around Singapore River, is Singapore's first, permanent heritage trail. Officially launched in 1999, it covers Singapore's history from the colonial period through World War Two right up to independence. It highlights the historic birthplace of Singapore where early settlers worked and lived and also became the seat of the British Colonial Government. In 1988, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) introduced the Civic District Master Plan to revitalise and promote the area as Singapore’s Civic and Cultural Hub. Singapore may be evolving into a world-class global city, yet at the Civic District, you can still find traces of Singapore's rich colonial charms. It is indeed a site that contains Singapore's most valuable historical buildings, structures, parks and monuments.

A lot of effort have been put to conserve the colonial charm of the Civic District. It is not just another part of the economic hearbeat of Singapore. Even the lamp posts of the Civic District have been conserved as can be seen from the colonial design of the lamps. The Civic District will certainly not disappoint those who are in search of a memorable historical trail.

How to get there?

Alight at Raffles MRT Station, walk across Cavenagh Bridge and start from Raffles' Landing Site.
It usually takes one to two hours to walk around Civic District 1 which stretches around 105 hectres.
